Listed below are the scholarships awarded by the Virginia DAR. No affiliation with the State or National Societies is necessary to qualify for these scholarships. DAR members' children are also eligible to apply.
  • American History Scholarship

    This $1,000 scholarship ($500 for second place) is awarded to a graduating high school senior who will pursue an undergraduate degree with a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History and/or American Government.  The applicant shall submit with the NSDAR American History Scholarship Application:

    1. A letter of not more than 1,000 words setting forth the reasons for desiring scholarship.
    2. A transcript of grades, class rank (if applicable and available) and test scores (SAT or ACT), extra-curricular activities and honors received.
    3. The NSDAR American History Financial Need Form.
    4. Letters of recommendation from at least two (but not more than four) persons in authority from the high school the applicant now attends who are familiar with the applicant's work

    The State Winner's application will be submitted to the National Society for consideration for the $8,000 American History Scholarship awarded by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

     

  • Virginia DAR Scholarships (2)

    There are two $1,000 scholarship ($500 for second place) are awarded to high school seniors who plan to major in any field other than nursing. The winners MUST attend a Virginia college or university.

  • Virginia Nursing Scholarship

    This $1,000 scholarship ($500 for second place) is awarded to a high school senior who will continue her/his education at an accredited Virginia school of nursing.

 

A Fact Sheet, as well as Application and Financial Need forms are available from local DAR chapters and high school guidance counselors, or may be downloaded below. All scholarship applications must be sent to the State Scholarship Chairman by February 1st.
